    This course provides a comprehensive introduction to wellness counselling, equipping learners with the knowledge, skills, and ethical awareness required to support emotional, psychological, and relational wellbeing within a non-clinical scope of practice. 
    Learners will explore core counselling micro-skills, wellness-appropriate counselling styles, ethical and professional conduct, and the practical application of wellness counselling in real-world contexts.
    Emphasis is placed on client-centered support, strengths-based approaches, scope boundaries, and appropriate referral practices, ensuring safe, responsible, and empowering wellness counselling practice.

    This course explores the foundations and practical application of wellness counselling within a clearly defined, non-clinical scope of practice. The course is structured into five progressive modules, each building essential knowledge, skills, and ethical awareness to support emotional, psychological, and relational wellbeing. 

     

    Module 1: Introduction to Wellness Counselling

    This module provides a foundational overview of wellness counselling and its role within the broader wellness and health landscape. Learners will explore the importance of emotional, psychological, and relational wellbeing, gain clarity on the scope of practice for wellness practitioners, and develop an understanding of professional boundaries. This module also covers when and how to refer clients to a psychologist or clinical professional, ensuring safe, ethical, and responsible wellness counselling practice. 

     

    Module 2: Core Counselling Micro-Skills

    This module focuses on the essential interpersonal skills required for effective wellness counselling.

    Learners will develop skills in active listening and cultivating presence during client interactions, and xplore effective questioning strategies, empathic responding, and the ability to reflect, summarise, and paraphrase client experiences. The module also emphasizes establishng rapport through relational warmth - supporting safe, respectful and client-centered wellness counselling interactions. 

     

    Module 3: Counselling Styles in the Wellness Sphere

    This module explores various counselling approaches that are appropriate for non-clinical wellness practice. This module emphasizes ethical application and scope awareness.

    • Person-Centered Wellness Counselling
    • Strengths-Based Counselling
    • Solution-Focused Wellness Counselling (non clinical)
    • Motivational Interviewing (MI) - non clinical application
    • Narrative Wellness Counselling
    • Mindfulness-Supported Guidance
    • Psychoeducational Skills for Wellbeing
    • Additional Counselling Styles Suitable for the Wellness Scope

     

    Module 4: Ethics and Professional Conduct

    This module explores ethical practice within the wellness counselling field. Learners will examine ASCHP-aligned ethical principles, confidentiality within the wellness scope, avoiding dual relationships, setting and maintaining firm professional boundaries, recognising red flags, and understanding when referral to a psychologist or clinical psychlogist is required. The module concludes with a section highlighting additional ethical considerations relevant to wellness counsellors, supporting ethical awareness and professional integrity in practice.

     

    Module 5: Practical Application, Case Work and Integration

    This module focuses on applying wellness counselling skills and approaches in real-world, non-clinical contexts. Learners will be able to practice integrating counselling styles based on specific client needs, work through applied case scenarios with guided responses, apply ethical decision-making, and reflect on professional readiness and scope responsibility. This module, and the course as a whole, concludes with gentle guidance and reflective reminders shared from one wellness counsellor to another, supporting confidence, integrity, and ethical practice.
