Here is exactly what we cover in this course:
Many counsellors prefer to counsel from a religious/spiritual perspective where aspects such as theology, the Bible, belief, prayer, ritual/liturgy and theology may play a role. To the Christian counsellor the client is imago Dei – created in the image of God in living in the sight of God (coram Deo). The pastoral counsellor may make use of counselling techniques and psychological insights, but the power, guidance and help of the Holy Spirit is the indispensable primary factor in achieving good counselling outcomes.
In pastoral counselling religious concepts such as shepherding, love, faith, hope, peace, wisdom, joy and grace will serve as key-concepts in the counselling process. Pastoral counselling is of course only viable if the client is a Christian believer and committed to the faith.
